Tulpenrallye 2019

The story of 2019: The 66th Tulpenrallye started on Sunday 12 May 2019 in Andorra, a full 1,326 kilometres from Utrecht. The northern approach to Andorra was unfortunately closed by a rockslide, so everyone had to make their way round through Spain. Almost all the crews drove the “Andorra Tour”, a run laid out by the organisers to get used to the road book. That year 202 crews took part in the rally. The finish towns for this edition were Perpignan, Avignon, Aix-les-Bains, Belfort, Luxembourg and Valkenburg. After the first day of the rally it was striking that in Touring and Expert a few crews had picked up no more than a handful of penalty points, and they were not the odds-on favourites. Well done! On the Tuesday a regularity test had been laid out over a mountain with a great many hairpins. It was only 1.9 km long. The start was uphill and took real effort, whilst there was a lot of sand on the way down. Many crews did not manage to hold the required average speed. Just before Aix-les-Bains a regularity test ran on towards the TC-in. Driving into a town without having seen the “End of Regularity” sign did not feel right. The route setters had overlooked this stretch, and part of the regularity test was neutralised. By Thursday evening the classification had taken shape. In Touring the battle for second and third place was very close. The difference between the crews of Danielle Kleyheeg and Berry Beukers and of Thecla van de Kamp and Frank Wilschut was only 2 points. On the final day both crews picked up the same number of penalty points, so Danielle Kleyheeg and Berry Beukers kept their second place. The Vintage class was won by Robert van den Camp and Onno den Boer. Touring went to Wim and Tom Lieshout. In the Sport class Niels Jongste and Rik Aalders took first place. Harm Lambrigts and Bart den Hartog were the winners of the “Coupe Rallye des Tulipes” in the Expert class of the 2019 Tulpenrallye.
